Mummy GO bans jewellery, make-up, attachment, tattoo, short dress, jeans in church

Mummy GO Funmilayo Adebayo

Founder of Rapture Proclaimer Evangelical Church of God (RAPEC) Funmilayo Adebayo, popularly known as Mummy GO, has banned jewellery, miniskirts, make-up, attachment, tattoo, and jeans in her church.

Mummy GO has become the rave of the moment due to her sermons about the dos and don’ts one must follow in order to avoid hell.

Her church located in the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos State does not carry too many congregants but they follow a strict order in their mode of dressing.

A reporter with PUNCH joined the church for worship on Sunday, January 9 to confirm some of the things seen on social media.

Mummy GO has appeared in numerous memes circulated multiple times on social media. According to her, most of the memes were fabricated.

Recounting her experience, the reporter Adebimpe Olajiga said, “I was about to enter the church when a security official who identified himself as Brother Femi said my dress which is some inches above my ankle isn’t long enough. I wasn’t surprised. Brother Femi’s observation was my first confirmation of all that I had seen Mummy GO preach in viral videos.

“Brother Femi led me to a female usher in the church simply called Sister Bunmi who brought out a carton with several fabrics which had different colours like purple, orange and grey. I picked one fabric and tied it around my waist to be allowed into the church.”

Olajiga could not find Mummy GO in church, but she learnt that the clergywoman stopped attending the church, claiming some internet users were threatening her over her “hellfire” sermons.

Women in the church are forbidden to wear necklaces, earrings, make-up, and any ornaments. Trousers are also forbidden for ladies while jeans are outlawed for men.

At the entrance of the church hangs a large banner which reads “Do not enter the sanctuary of God with the following: beads, jewellery, short skirts, jeans, curly hair, dreads and hair extensions (women), dreads and stylish cuts (men), eyelashes, make-up, painted nails and tattoos.
