Mobil petrol station on fire

The Mobil filling station at Unizik Junction, Awka axis of the Enugu-Onitsha expressway, was on Thursday gutted by fire.

The cause of the fire has not been identified.

The fire razed a petrol tanker, the lube house, part of the administrative block and some dispensing machines.

Firefighters on the spot were able to contain the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.

A manager of the filling station, who identified himself as Ugo, said the tanker had no content.

Mr Ugo commended the firefighters and rescue volunteers for their efforts.

The fire occurred barely 10 days after three filling stations were also gutted in Onitsha.

The spokesman for the police command in Anambra, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident.

Mr Ikenga said officers of the command had cordoned off the area to prevent the breakdown of law, adding that firefighters arrived at the scene on time.
