I was flown to Abuja on private jet, Uche Nwosu speaks on arrest

Uche Nwosu

Former governorship candidate in Imo State Uche Nwosu has revealed that he was flown to Abuja from Enugu airport shortly after his arrest on Sunday.

Nwosu, the son-in-law of former governor Rochas Okorocha, was arrested in the middle of a service at St. Peters Anglican Church, Nkwerre, Imo State. Reports said the police opened fire in the air and sent worshippers scampering for safety.

Nwosu told reporters in Owerri, according to BBC Pidgin, that he feared for his life during the arrest, adding that he had never seen the police operate in that manner.

“They carried me from Imo to Enugu airport where they put me inside a private jet which took me to Abuja,” he was quoted as saying.

“Their plan was to kill me not to arrest me. It was social media that saved me.

“I want the police to investigate who paid for the private jet that carried me to Abuja, who posted my picture with handcuffs on social media, and the offence I commited.”

Nwosu’s photo in handcuffs surfaced on social media on Monday after he had been released unconditionally.

The police are yet to state why the former chief of staff to Okorocha was arrested. Imo police spokesperson Michael Abattam had said Nwosu was arrested in connection with a case under investigation.

Meanwhile, Imo State Government has apologised to the church for the manner in which Nwosu was arrested.
