An apology letter written by the chairman of the board of trustees of Magodo Brooks Residents Association (MABRA) Ayoola Lawson to Lagos State commissioner of police Hakeem Odumosu has caused division among the association.
Qed.ng had reported how the estate’s security guards had prevented Mr Odumosu from accessing the estate on New Year Day.
The guards were subsequently arrested. Also, a widow Adebola Fatiregun and her three children were apprehended for being part of the resistance.
Lagos police spokesman Adekunle Ajisebutu in a statement on January 2 said Odumosu visited the estate to meet a “strategic partner” but was refused entry even after being formally introduced. But MABRA said the guards had no prior knowledge of his visit and were arrested in their bid to assist him with directions.
It was however learnt that Mr Lawson apologised to Odumosu in a letter dated January 3 that the association regretted the action of the estate guards.
The letter read, “I, Engr Ayoola Lawson, Chairman Board of Trustees of Magodo Brooks Residential Association (MABRA) on behalf of residents, hereby tender an unreserved apologies for improper conduct of our estate security men towards you on the 1st January, 2022 at the estate gate entrance.
“The conduct of the security men is highly regretted. I hereby wish to assure you that such a misconduct will never happen again. I thank you for your anticipated acceptance of our apologies and your assurance of settling the matter.”
Guardian reports that the association’s chairman distanced himself from the letter.
“The BOT chairman wrote this letter on his personal grounds. He did not inform any member of the Exco on this. I as the chairman dissociate myself from this. Even though absent physically, I was and am in tune with what is on the ground. I take a honourable exit,” his message on the association’s WhatsApp group read.
The newspaper further reports that its sources added that some of the association’s officials including vice chairman, publicity and social secretary and assistant general secretary have resigned over the issue.
