Controversy over Boko Haram’s reported abduction of policemen in Ndume’s hometown

Boko Haram

Boko Haram fighters have reportedly abducted several mobile policemen at the police mobile training school in Limankara, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, hometown of Senator Ali Ndume.

Reports say the terrorists attacked the training school around 8:22 pm on Thursday with gun trucks.

The number of policemen allegedly taken captive was not immediately clear.

The training school is located twenty-five kilometres from Gwoza town. It is a border town between Borno and Madagali LGA of Adamawa State.

Ndume, who is the chairman of Senate committee on the army, had led the committee on a working visit to the theatre command operation, Hadin Kai, in the area two days before the attack.

The senator, however, denied that such an incident happened in his hometown.

He said that Limankara community and other surrounding villages are calm and peaceful with military battalions stationed at strategic places who have been crushing fleeing Boko Haram insurgents crossing from Sambisa forest to the Mandara Mountains of Cameroon on daily basis.

“It is not true that some police officers were kidnapped in Limankara, In fact, there are no policemen in Limankara, we only have military troops/battalion in Limankara who are up and doing, and there is no attack of such nature,” he told Vanguard on Friday.

Borno State commissioner of police Audu Umar, however, confirmed there was an attack on the school but it was thwarted.

He said all the 13 policemen at the school are safe and in good condition.

Umar added that the Command did not lose any weapon during the attack.
