A law has been passed in China that effectively bans its residents and visitors from eating animals such as dog, snake, frog, turtle and cat meat in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic.
This ban was passed yesterday, Wednesday, 1st of April by lawmakers in Shenzhen and will take effect on May 1, according to a government notice.
The legislation comes on the heels of the country’s ban of all trade and consumption of wild animals, a practice, which scientists believe is responsible for the deadly virus that has turned into a global pandemicas in China, the virus has claimed 3,312 lives and infected more than 81,500 people since the outbreak started in Wuhan.
According to the document, nine types of livestock are suitable for people to eat. They are pigs, cows, sheep, donkeys, rabbits, chickens, ducks, geese and pigeons.
