Early Life of Pastor W. F. Kumuyi
William Folorunso Kumuyi was born on the 6th of June 1941 into a Christain family in Erin-Ijesha, Osun State. His father Gabriel Kumuyi Akinfenwa, and mother, Comfort Idowu Kumuyi Akinfenwa were born both Anglicans, so he understood the Christain doctrines at a very early age.
He proceeded to the University of Ibadan, from where he graduated in 1967 with a first-class honours’ degree in mathematics. He was the overall best graduating student in that year.
Kumuyi subsequently took up a post-graduate course in Education at the University of Lagos. In April 1964, he became a born-again Christian and another phase of his life begun.
Pastor W.F. Kumuyi’s Teaching Career
Pastor W.F. Kumuyi’s first step as a teacher was in 1962 when he picked up a teaching job at Mayflower School, his alma mater. In 1970, he became a lecturer of mathematics at the University of Lagos.
Pastor W.F. Kumuyi’s Ministry Life
Kumuyi began his Christain ministry in 1975 while still working as a lecturer at the University of Lagos. He first began a Bible study group with 15 students who had come to him for Bible training, a training which later became a foundation of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry.
He once said:
I grew up in a very strict Christian home, he told Isaacson, “We would get up in the morning, read the Bible, sing hymns, and go to church regularly. When I went to secondary school I lost interest in the church because our principal taught us atheism. But after a while I thought again and started going to various churches in town.
In 1975, he was expelled from the Apostolic Faith Church for preaching on the baptism of the Holy Spirit. This didn’t stop him but rather gave birth to an independent ministry which later became what we now know as the Deeper Life Bible Church.
Marital Life Pastor W.F. Kumuyi
Pastor W.F. Kumuyi got married to his first wife, late Mummy Abiodun Kumuyi and they had two children, John and Jeremiah. Mummy Abiodun Kumuyi died on the 11th of April 2009 after a brief illness.
Pastor Kumuyi remarried Folashade Adenike Blaize on 13 October 2010, exactly 18 months after the death of his first wife. The court and church wedding were done in the UK, with some pastors of Deeper Life in attendance.
